Defra, UK - Environmental Protection - Climate Change - UK - Households - Products - light bulbs.
"The traditional light bulb has not changed for over a hundred years since Edison and Swan - the time of Queen Victoria - and these bulbs waste 95% of electricity as heat. "
"By phasing out the traditional light bulbs, we will all be using less energy so will need less electricity."
Surely the 95% of "lost" heat energy has been contributing to heating your house. With that now gone from the bulb, your heating system will be working harder to compensate for the loss? Discuss.
Edison and Swan invented lightbulbs with a carbon element which today has been replaced with Tungsten. Also available today is a wide variety of halogen, fluorescent and LED lighting devices. The first sentence in the debate must be contested on grounds of accuracy.
