Amazon : DRM free MP3s

Amazon.co.uk: MP3 store – DRM-free MP3 music downloads

Amazon has launched their MP3 store in the UK this week, to very little fanfare. While it’s going to be tough going to make a dent in iTune’s 80% UK market share, the fact that the MP3s are free from DRM and can be played on any MP3 player or computer you have, means that many will gladly buy from them.

I’m sure I’m not alone, but I’d much rather buy DRM free music from Amazon for a few quid, than risk my credit-card details with slightly dodgy Russian based MP3 sites for the sake of saving a few pence.

I’ve been a fan of SomaFM for quite some time, as they play a wide variety of unusual and funky styles of music, and are also commercial free (apart from an occasional support request).  Despite their success, everyone I know who listens, loves them, they are still finding it hard to make ends meet, and are currently around $25,000 short of breaking even in 2008.

So if you like eclectic music, and want to avoid mainstream rubbish, then give Soma a try.  If you like them, then why not bung them a few dollars and keep them alive.
